Several years ago, I created a little challenge to work on my creative projects for 20 minutes every day for 30 days. My only fear was 20 minutes would be so minuscule I wouldn’t see any progress on the projects I was trying to finish. Wow, was I wrong.
Turns out when I had my supplies in hand and set my stopwatch, this thing called FOCUS kicked in. And I actually began to make significant movement on projects that had languished for um, a long time.
That’s literally how 2030make started.
It’s been several years now and the principles behind 2030make are now a habit in my life.
No, I don’t sit down every single day and set a timer to work, but it is a habit to create every day even if it’s for a short amount of time. I’ve realized that every little bit counts and that keeping one’s creativity in motion is so important.
I didn’t realize it at the time, but that’s a big part of what The Creative Retreat book is all about—making time for personal retreats in our lives, even if they’re super short (i.e., a morning at a bookstore rather than a week at a resort).
Of course, what has REALLY made 2030make amazing is the community that has grown up around it. Quite literally, thousands of people have participated in this challenge over the years!
It’s been so fun to hear about your projects, your growth, and how much fun you’ve had going through it. Thank you so much for sharing this with me.
This challenge has now been updated and made into a course!

The #2030make challenge was exactly what I needed to get started on writing my eBook, DIY Block Design. It helped me take that first, scary step, and before I long, I found myself spending a lot longer than 20 minutes as I got hooked on the process! Purposely dedicating just 20 minutes per day is an achievable goal, and will help anyone beat the “I don’t have time” blues.[/h_quotes]
