This woodland creatures toilet paper roll craft is simple to make and will lead to hours of imaginary play afterwards. We love these!
Okay, I am officially a toilet paper rolls as a craft convert. I collected a bunch of rolls for my DIY pillow boxes just in case I messed them up and was about to throw them away when I came across a whole world of crafts.
Maybe you already know you can cut them them up and use them as large ‘beads’ for your baby (or toddler) to string onto shoelaces. And how you can use them as tubes to roll tiny pom poms down the shoot.
But apparently, you can also make toy rockets and wall art out of the toilet paper and paper towel tubes you would normally toss in the trash. Of course, these are the things preschool teachers everywhere already know.
Today we’re making woodland creatures . . . and a cat. I was going to make a cute fox but couldn’t quite get it to look right, so I decided to make a cat instead. 🙂 I know a cat isn’t exactly a “woodland creature” but I figured the cat lived in a house next to the forest and could walk over there and hang out. And besides, I can draw cats.
Woodland Creatures Toilet Paper Roll Craft
To make your own woodland creatures, you will need:
3 (or more) empty toilet paper tubes
Acrylic paint in white, black, and pink
Small paint brush
Cup of water (to rinse the paint off of your brush)
Pencil
Begin by lightly drawing your design onto the tube with a pencil. Then press in the top of the tube to form the ears of the animal. For the bunny, I made these a little larger than the owl and cat.
You could paint the entire tube white and let it dry or just paint the animal portion like I did. Let the paint dry completely, then use your black and pink paint to add details. Let the paint dry and you’re done!
You can make this craft for your little one to play with or if you have older kids, you can show them how to make their own woodland creatures. And if your toilet paper roll animals don’t turn out amazingly gorgeous, you don’t have to worry because it didn’t cost you a dime.
Just have fun! We’ve been playing with these all day—they’ve even joined the princesses in the castle for a tea party.
