Have you heard of the Halloween “You’ve Been BOOed” tradition? I thought I’d put my own twist on it and show you how I’m sending a BOO in the mail this year. If you’re not familiar with this idea, it’s kind of like a Secret Santa. You fill up a box or basket with goodies, leave it at your neighbor’s door, and then put a sign on it that says, “You’ve been BOO’ed!” Kind of silly and kind of sweet too, don’t you think?
Anyway, I love this idea but thought I’d take it to a different level and send my BOO in the mail to a sweet friend (because I mentioned I like snail mail, right?)
How to Send a Boo in the Mail
One of my favorite places to shop for treats and care package goodness is Target. Their Dollar Spot is where I pick up everything from cute notepads to stickers for my daughter. I also usually forget why I came when I mosey around that area because there are just so many fun treasures. But not today.
I figured I’d stop there first since they had a lot of seasonal decorations out. I found some cute sparkly washi tape (more on that in a minute), a few pens, and a notepad. Perfect for a care package. Next I was off to the seasonal section of the store to get some candy for my friend’s package. Not hard to find at all. (Target has exclusive-to-their-store candies like M&M’S Boo-tterscotch and DOVE Milk Chocolate Ghosts, so I was on a mission to find those.)
Oh, my goodness, these little ghosts by Dove are too cute.
And the M&Ms?
I picked up one more package of the Starburst Halloween mix and then headed home to create a fun little care package. (Is this where I mention how nice it was that I only had to make one stop with my kiddo in tow? Yay for Target!)
My friend likes to write letters too, so I printed off some stationery that I’d designed for the deluxe package of The Creative Retreat. I tucked those into the box, added a pen, and a magnetic notepad from the Dollar Spot.
I also painted a full moon for her onto a small wooden circle for a fun fall-like decoration. I’ll share that tutorial in a couple of weeks—it’s so easy you won’t believe it!
Then I drew pumpkins and tiny “BOOs!” onto a sheet of label paper. I cut those out and affixed them to clear reclosable bags that I keep on hand for care packages like this one.
I had to sneak a couple of the M&Ms just to make sure they were delicious. Yum.
Then I added the candy to the bags and closed them.
Next, I took the washi tape and made a tiny string of bunting just for fun. To make this bunting, cut rectangles of washi tape, fold it over ribbon, press it closed over the ribbon, and cut the ends into a triangle shape. So cute!
Finally, I added a “You’ve Been Boo’ed!” note, and tucked everything into a box.
When you’re shipping a package like this, make sure you add enough crumpled paper or bubble wrap so none of the contents move around. You want to be able to shake the box back and forth and not hear or feel all the items sliding around.
Now that I’ve finished this package for my friend, I kind of want one for myself. It’s just too cute. If you’re thinking of sending your own BOO in the mail, then click here for a great deal on candies from Target.
Hope you have a lovely {and creative} day!
