How to Make a Craft Kit (for kids)

Learn how to make a craft kit for kids! I love these because you can customize them to the individual and DIYing your own is less expensive than buying them premade too!

When I was a little girl, craft supplies were a treat. I loved it when someone would gift me stickers and different kinds of cute paper. I regularly spent my allowance at a local dollar store on cute pens, stickers, and letter-writing sets. (And also on little figurines—I don’t know why, but I still have the figurine aisle memorized because I spent so many hours dreaming about which porcelain cat I wanted. But I digress . . .)

My nieces are very into crafts right now so I thought a great gift for them would be some sort of craft kit. After searching around and finding some very cute (but expensive) ones, I decided to make them myself. I figured the added bonus would be I could customize the kits for the girls.

It has been so much fun finding little trinkets here and there to include in these craft kits. Here are some of the items I added to their craft kits to show you the possibilities.

How to Make a Craft Kit (for kids or grownups)

50 assorted beads
3 pieces of beading string (pre-cut)
Stickers
Glue stick
3 mini-books to decorate (how to make a mini book)
Scrapbook paper (I cut these down to make little swatches)
Mini post-it notes
Colored pen
2 lollipops (Be sure to ask their mom if this is alright)
And of course, lip gloss, because every little girl needs one of those!

Throughout the year, I saved small boxes which ended up being perfect for these treasures. For one of my nieces, I used a small fabric bag. You could also package everything in a mason jar and tie the lid with a ribbon—that would be really cute!

If you’ve already made something like this, you could also create a craft kit restocking kit (I’m going to do that next year.)

These girls are super creative so I have no doubt they will think of infinite ideas of what to do with these supplies. I also like that everything fits into a small box so everything has a home when craft time is finished for the day.

You could also put together something like this for any creative person in your life.

• For the person who likes to embroider: a couple of swatches of linen, embroidery floss, a needle, felt to stick the needle in, and a treat.
• For the budding gardener: flower or herb seeds, a small Ziploc bag of soil, and a tiny pot.
• For the artist: blank mini books, stencils, stickers, and several new pens to sketch with on the go.

Or you could do what I did and include several different things intended to get their creative juices going. Just remember to always include a treat. And maybe some lip gloss too.

*Update* – These craft kits were a huge hit which made this Auntie so happy! The girls loved them, and I heard that they used the mini books to write and illustrate their own stories. Love that! I’ll definitely be making more of these.
