Can you believe Christmas is next week? Even with the Christmas tree up and afternoons spent making little gifts (like this hot chocolate mix – yum!), I still don’t feel ready. This week, I’m planning to take some time to sit down and think about what we’ll do during vacation. Sometimes a couple of moments of reflection and a wish list of things I’d like to do is all it takes to move past the frantic feelings of, “Oh, no! I’m not ready yet!” when it comes to Christmas. 🙂
Although there are only three of us in my little family for Christmas dinner this year, I’m still going to make some Christmas name cards, because why not? And besides, these can be made in minutes which kind of takes away the excuse “I’m so busy and don’t have time.” I made these with card stock but you could also use plain index cards and fold them to save yourself from cutting each card to size. I seem to remember seeing something like this on Pinterest where the artist glued buttons for the ornaments–that would be super cute too!
How to Make Christmas Name Cards
You will need:
Card stock or blank index cards
Scissors or paper cutter
Watercolors in your choice of colors
Black waterproof pen
If you’re using card stock, cut the paper to the size you’d like. You can use scissors for this although a paper cutter tends to be more accurate. If you’re using blank index cards, simply fold them in half.
Now, following the pattern in the image above, paint three circles onto the cards. Wait until the paint is dry and add the ornament and name details with the pen. Walla! You’re finished!
Take it to the next level:
- After the watercolors have dried, dot glue onto the circles and sprinkle on glitter.
- Use metallic pens to make the ornaments pop.
- Add a note inside the name cards or tape a single piece of candy inside.
- Dot glue onto the card in the same pattern and add buttons for the ornaments.
- Use flat scrapbooking stickers for the ornaments. (I have some that look like gems that would be perfect for this project!)
- Use fingerpaint instead of watercolors. Have your children dip their fingers in the paint and onto the paper to make the ornaments. (Be sure to save one, because how cute would those be?!)
Adding a little decoration to your table at Christmas doesn’t have to break the budget or kill your time as you can see with these name cards. 🙂
